Steering Committee Meeting Schedule

The Steering Committee is composed of representatives from each of the cities and counties the trail connects.  The Committee meets regularly at 9 a.m. on the first Friday of every month.  The meetings are open to the public, and the minutes are published in local newspapers.  The location of each meeting is typically set one month in advance.  For meeting details, please feel free to contact us.

Public Meetings were held in Woodward, Madrid, Slater (including Sheldahl), and Ankeny in the month of November to kick off the project. (notice.pdf) These meetings were held to present background infomation on the trail and to gain the public's input. The meeting dates were advertised and posted in advance in hopes of encouraging greater attendance. The meetings were also held in each community to help facilitate attendance and participation. A questionnaire was given out at each of the meetings. (questionnaire.pdf)

Rich Voelker from Snyder & Associates, Daivd Dahlquist from RDG Planning and Design, and Matt Sherwood from Shuck Briston conducted the meetings with the assistance of members of the trail Steering Committee and Iowa National Heritage Foundation.

Residents and meeting attendees were given the chance to look at aerial exhibits that displayed the entire 25 mile corridor with the trail alignment

A second public meeting was held in Slater in June.  At this meeting, David Dahlquist shared some of his bridge art concepts. Click here to view a sample of his work for this project.  Matt Sherwood was also at the meeting to share details about bridge construction.  In particular, the sizing and location of several overlooks being designed for the Des Moines River Bridge.
